Iron William and the Carpenter Tears The Trials of Iron William Kidd Book 2 eBook Michael Gardner
Iron William and the Carpenter’s Tears by Michael Gardner is a historical adventure about a mercenary, “Iron” William Kidd, and his undertakings to find a religious artifact.William is a retired elite agent of the King of England who is commissioned by a Vatican Cardinal bent on securing the tears that Christ shed at Lazarus’s tomb. This priceless relic is a magnificent blue gem that gives its bearer good health and centuries-long life. Other parties also seek the Tears, and Gardner’s story is a breathless account of William’s quick thinking and cunning tricks to get the prize for his employer.
He meets up with a former colleague, Flint, who has suffered bouts of madness since a skirmish that dealt Flint a blow to the head and William saving his life. William also befriends Harissa, a galleon captain with a surprising past. William has a desperate fight with another Tears seeker that leaves him seriously maimed and unable to hold a sword or pistol.
The story is a satisfying adventure involving a likable William. Despite his sometimes-ruthless profession, he has a conscience. The unpredictable story drew me in, and I could not wait to see what happened next. Gardner has a knack for writing fight scenes that amp up the tension without turning into a blow-by-blow thump fest. Excellent scene descriptions, too. At times the evocative desert passages with its searing sun and thick heat made me reach for my water glass.
Iron William and the Carpenter’s Tears is an absorbing and well-written tale. I recommend it for adventure fans that enjoy stories about treasure seekers.

Iron William and the Carpenter Tears The Trials of Iron William Kidd Book 2 eBook Michael Gardner Reviews
A great story, well written that I couldn't put down! From the richness and diversity of the characters to the pace of the storyline and the great writing, it all kept me wanting to know more from the moment I picked it up until I finished it! This story captures your imagination in so many ways, you can totally immerse yourself in it! I would definitely recommend this book and I enjoyed every minute of reading it! Thanks Michael, I really, really hope there is a sequel or at least more to come from you as an author!
Ah, historical fiction that reads like an action adventure! Why don't more writers do this? This is really great! Mr. Gardner keeps the adrenalin levels pumped up throughout and isn't afraid to seed in a few twists to keep the reader guessing. He's obviously done a heck of a lot of research into the language and manners of King Henry's time which helps immerse you in the story. He's also got a keen eye for detail without letting it intrude into the story. A most impressive page turner I've not read the like of before. Well done, Mr. Gardner. May we have more please?
Michael Gardner casts a vivid spell over the reader, drawing them into a plot that has engaging characters and exciting twists. Immediately you are swept back to the 16th century, as the hero, William Kidd, fights against evil forces who threaten to use The Tears of Christ for their own malevolent purposes. Gardner also cleverly uses humour and good-natured banter to entertain the reader, making it a book you can't put down.
"Iron William and the Carpenter's Tears" is a historical adventure fantasy, the kind of book people will never cease to love. Its roots are in the good old classic heroic adventure story but the writing style is more suggestive of the boy's adventure story as reinterpreted by TV space operas like "Dr Who", or films like "Raiders of the Lost Ark". It's very well researched and surprisingly learned. The author's learning sits lightly inside the story and the history is accurate with great attention to detail, making the fantasy elements really satisfying, enjoyable and thought-provoking.
I don't want to talk about the plot in any detail as that will spoil the read for you, except to say the plot twists are exceptionally well done and will keep you surprised and on the edge of your seat. The characters are thoughtfully developed too, and you quickly feel sympathy and interest. Lots of fun, some rich descriptive writing and some good laughs too. A bargain at three times the price. Read it!
The many adventures of Iron William Kidd and friends as they fight to find the Carpenters Tears are brilliantly constructed and as the story unfolds marvelously detailed . Gardner's attention to the details of life in the 16th century and descriptions of a mercenary's quest for a religious artifact are as informative of the ancient world as they are entertaining.
Vllen Dytz, Tom Flint, and Harissa are just a few of the characters that are well developed as is Kidd who as the adventure unfolds grows from being a cold blooded mercenary to a better man with a conscience.
The rousing adventure is brilliant and makes this reader eagerly wait for more from Michael Gardner.
A fun, fast-paced adventure. Michael Gardner hits the ground running and never lets up speed. He's created a memorable character with Iron William Kidd, a former spy for Henry VIII who must take on a mission for the Vatican or face certain death.
There's an almost Indiana Jones quality to the tale, which means I enjoyed it very much. Rivalry, potential romance, betrayal, and a quest for a powerful religious artifact. There's even a snake. As well as great action scenes and a very satisfying ending.
Iron William lives up to his moniker. He's a great character with interesting enemies. I'm looking forward to meeting more of them.
What the …?
A 16th century proto-cyborg, part Bond, part Indie Jones? What makes Gardener's tale so impressive isn't just his bold imagination, but the fact that he can make such an outlandish character feel so authentic and lived-in. Great settings, lively pacing, convincing historical details; this book works on so many levels. And I especially enjoyed the fact that William Kidd is a warrior with a conscience, one who strives to walk the hero's path, while showing mercy to his foes. Highly recommended.
